Why Change
A 180m² textile set that is alive, mutable, and never the same twice, created for performance collective Merle | Mischke | Klee. Made almost entirely from recycled materials, the enormous orange panels drape the space and the audience alike, covering the floor, rising into walls, or lifting to form a ceiling, like the connective tissue of a living organism, responding to movement and presence.
The set was made possible by the Creative Industries Fund NL, and the performance toured throughout Germany in 2021 and 2022.

“Why change?” is a production of Merle | Mischke | Klee, co-produced by Theaterwerkstatt Pilkentafel Flensburg. Rehearsal residencies were made possible by Dampfzentrale Bern (CH) and TILT (NL). The project is funded by the Ministry of Education and Training, Science, Research and Culture of the State of Schleswig-Holstein and supported by Fonds Darstellende Künste with funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and Media within the program NEUSTART KULTUR.
Almost all fabrics used in the performance are recycled or sourced from discarded materials from flag, sail, and parachute manufacturers who supported the project as sponsors: Intervlag, Veluwse Vlaggenindustrie, Hanse Sails, Humanoid, among others.
